Eyes By MAC Starflash and Colour Forms, Brows By Anastasia

Here is a look and a step-by-step illustration featuring products from the new MAC Starflash and Colour Forms (Nordstrom exclusive) collections. I also featured my brows done with Anastasia of Beverly Hills' Five Item Brow Kit. I will be featuring a more detailed review of Anastasia's brow products, but for the moment, let me say that I am really loving the kit. It makes my brows look less harsh and a lot more natural. All products MAC unless otherwise noted.

First, apply Beige-ing shadestick from lashline to brows. Smooth product over brows. Apply Nice Vice paint pot sparingly on the lid using a concealer brush.

Using 239 brush, apply Circa Plum pigment (Colour Forms collection) on the lid wet using water-based mixing medium.

Using 239 brush, dab Baby Petals (Heatherette Trio 2) on inner to mid lid, as well as from inner corner to the browbone.

Some Neutrals and Purples

I decided to use some of my MAC products that I haven't used in months. In this first look, I used my classic MAC neutral shadows in Tempting on outer lid, Mulch on the crease, and the limited edition Summer Neutral on the lid (love this color). I used Graphic Brown to line and Femme-Fi to highlight. I used Blusche full-coverage mineral foundation for oily and combination skin in a 50-50 mix of Brazilian and Creme Brulee. I love the finish of this foundation, and I also like the amazing coverage. For the cheeks, I used my CARGO blush in Mendocino (it's about time I used my CARGO blushes!) with MAC Lightflush MSF on top. I used MAC lipliner in Whirl, Composure mattene lipstick and C-thru lipglass.

Pinks and Purples

Here's a pink and purple look I wore yesterday. I think my Joppa foundation in Light #3 is becoming a wee bit too light now because of the onset of summer, so I will try a mix of Light #3 and Medium Light #3 next time. Again, here's a step-by-step illustration (all products MAC unless otherwise noted).

Apply Beige-ing shadestick on entire lid and browbone and blend into brow, then apply Fresco Rose paint pot on lid.

Apply Swish eyeshadow on lid over Fresco Rose, then Milani Runway Eyes Wet-Dry shadow in Royalty foiled on middle of lid.

Purples and Periwinkles

Here's a purple look I used with my DreamWorld mineral foundation in mostly Theia (90% Theia and just 10% Tethys). It does look dark, though. I guess more Tethys in the mix next time! I also used my favorite mineral eyeshadows from Valerie Beauty, and this time I chose Periwinkle Sky and $400 Shoes. I just love the combination of these two lilac colors. I added my favorite purple pigment, MAC Grape, as a crease color. I'm sleepy so I guess it's time to shut up. I'll just let the pictures do the talking.

Sorry for the uneven brows, they will be waxed pretty soon!

An Easy Pink Look

I love to use MAC shadows as opposed to minerals when I'm running late. They are very user-friendly, don't spill, blend easily, glide like a dream, and almost fool-proof. That's not to say that I don't like minerals. Minerals are okay as long as you are used to your mineral eyeshadow brand's slip, pigmentation, color pay-off, and texture. If you are not, or if you are trying out a new brand, it is better not to use them for the first time when you're in a hurry to avoid disaster. I usually use my most trusted minerals when I don't have the luxury of time - Valerie Beauty, Lumiere, She Space, and I usually foil the lid color for maximum vibrancy. However, if I am REALLY pressed for time, MAC is the way to go for the above-mentioned reasons. I also love that whatever I do, as long as I use my trusted Beige-ing shadestick underneath, my MAC shadows stay vibrant, crease-free, and gorgeous all day long.

This particular look was done in a hurry, and I don't know exactly what I used, but I will attempt to enumerate them (all MAC unless otherwise noted). I used Beige-ing shadestick as base, Baby Pink Petals from Heatherette Trio 2 to highlight, Gateaux on tearducts and inner corners, Swish on inner to mid-lid, Nocturnelle on outer V, Cassette from Heatherette Trio 2 on crease, Indelible gel liner in Tanzanite to line, MAC and Rimmel mascaras.

Also, one of my favorite mineral brands, LaurEss, is having a sale. Take a peek at their fabulous products and even more fabulous prices. I love LaurEss because it never fails to give the illusion of smooth, perfect-looking skin. It has one of the best finishes of mineral foundation that I've tried, and whenever I want to look polished, LaurEss never fails to save the day. I was a fan of their Original formula foundation but it has been discontinued (what is it with cosmetic companies discontinuing your favorite products?). They launched the Elemental formula which is supposed to be a sheerer, softer-focus and less matte than the Original formula, but I found it a little bit too sheer and less matte for my taste. Now, Lauren, bless her heart, has created a new formula that is as close to the Original as can possibly be - the new Minimalist. I compared the ingredients and they are just about the same, and I love the fact that they are having a sale to herald the comeback of the formula that I've loved. I am glad the Minimalist is here, because I know that it is just about the same in terms of finish, staying power and coverage as the Original formula. In this look I am wearing the Original formula in a 50-50 mix of Radiant Gold and Pure Gold.

Martyr Girl Holds Wilted Roses and An Empty Promise

Strange title eh? Those are names of She Space shadows I used for this look. Wilted Roses is supposed to be a shimmery pink, but I kind of blended everything to achieve an almost monochromatic look. I love pinks and purples, and I like the fact that these pigments from The She Space actually look neutral enough for work.

I also tried my samples of Buff'd mineral foundation for the first time. I was totally blown away by how great the finish of this foundation was. It wasn't so matte nor did it make me look like an oil slick by mid-day unlike some foundations tend to do. I didn't even re-touch during the day, my only touch-up procedure was to dab a sheet of oil-blotting paper on my face (which incidentally didn't yield too much grease). The foundation also stayed put the whole day; staying power was simply fantastic. I just LOVE it! Oh my, with so many amazing mineral makeup brands available, I would be really having a hard time choosing my foundation in the morning (but I bet it's gonna be fun!). As you can see in the pics, the finish is really creamy and velvety, but it covers adequately and a little goes a LONG way. This is similar to Cory in coverage and finish (Cory by far offers the heaviest coverage out of all the mineral makeup I've tried), but I like the fact that Buff'd is a little less dense than Cory so it goes creamy but not cakey. Also, I broke out when I used Cory's foundation (although the blushes didn't irritate my skin), so I guess the said foundation is not really for me, coupled with the fact that I haven't really found my exact shade in Cory. Buff'd, however, has a lot of yellow-toned shades so I am bound to find my perfect match (*crosses fingers*).

I used Moccasin shade in the photos, but if you notice, my face is darker than my neck, and in person it really looked quite dark. I'm going to try Almond and Ginger next because these are lighter than Moccasin. I got these samples for free (yes, free shipping too). Jen from Buff'd is amazing and really nice to offer to ship samples for free (I also read in makeup forums that she really sends out up to 3 free samples to potential clients). Once I find my pefect shade, I intend to get a full size pot as the full sizes are currently on sale. I just hope I don't get charged too much for shipping because this is my first international mineral makeup order (Buff'd is Canada-based, although orders $50 and above get free shipping). Their blushes and shadows look pretty as well, and like Cory, a crumb or two of the minerals are all you need for a pigmented application.

Vibrant and Subdued Purples, Joppa Minerals, Valerie Beauty and MAC Brushes

What a hodgepodge title! I crammed two days' worth of blogging in one post to make up for my silence the last couple of days. Here are two looks featuring vibrant and dull purple looks. In both instances I used my Joppa Minerals, albeit in different formulas. Since I already featured the full-coverage variant in the previous entry, I will only feature the soft-coverage one here. I love the finish of both, but I think Medium Light #3 is a tad too dark on me, especially in person. I will still keep it though because I am bound to tan during the brutal summer months here, and just in case I need to tweak my Light #3. I love the finish because it's matte but doesn't look cakey at all and it doesn't feel heavy on the face. I love the kaolin clay factor because my face tends to get oily especially on the t-zone, and kaolin clay is known for its oil-absorbent qualities.

Pinks, Purples and Neutrals

I'll just post some recent looks using soft pinks and neutrals for everyday. These were not as festive as I'd wanted them to be because these were for office wear. I just feel I have to post them now because I might forget what I used for these looks if I procrastinate in posting this entry.

Looks Using MAC 6 Cool Eyes Palette and Laura Geller Baked Makeup Set

Here are some looks using newly-acquired products. The first one is a pink/purple look featuring MAC Holiday eye palette in 6 Cool Eyes and Grape pigment. I like combinations of pinks and purples because they look really feminine. This is my first time to use the 6 Cool Eyes palette. I love the burst of colors, but I admit this is not something I can use everyday. This would be pretty for holiday or party looks, and when you really want something pink, lilac or feminine.

Lancome Color Fever Shine Lipstick and Purples

Turn up your lips with gliding sensual shine!

I had the chance to try this lipstick out and I like the fact that it doesn't dry my lips. I also appreciate the sheerness of the product because that makes application very buildable. I like the cute see-through packaging and the sleekness of the tube that is very Lancome. It moisturizes my lips and never made it crack or peel, and the the slickness of the product just babies the lips with moisture throughout. If you don't like sparkle in your lip products, however, this is not for you. It shimmers and sparkles so I believe this is more apt for night time wear, especially with the deeper colors. I used the shade in Provocative which is a deep plum color. I was wearing purples for a night out as well, so I used a light lip gloss to tone down the shade. It is a very pretty shade though and if you want your lips to stand out for a fun night in town, go get this shade.

For my eyes, I used MAC pigments in Mauvement and Grape, and I think I have a new favorite pigment in the latter. I soooo love the depth and the perfect purple shade of Grape. It is not as dark as Entremauve and it is beautiful when paired with a lighter purple on the lid. The coming of fall makes me want to wear deeper colors like plums and purples, and this beautiful pigment is going to be a staple for me this fall and winter.
