I don't want to say bold lips because they're not really "bold" in the true sense of the word. They're just a little darker than what I usually wear. In the first look, I used Silk Naturals' lipstick in Bliss. I love this lippie so much that I think I have 3 tubes of this. It really brightens my face, and I also use this to touch up during the day, along with Jaybird or Birthday Suit lipglosses (which are actually colored lipbalms) from the same company. Let me say that I love all my lipglosses and lipsticks from Silk Naturals. They are never icky on the lips, have a pleasant smell/taste, and the colors really flatter my skintone. Best of all, the pricing is very reasonable. I have several of the lipsticks and glosses, but my favorite shades are the ones I mentioned above. I am actually on my third tube of Birthday Suit!
I used Buff'd mineral foundation in a 70-30 mix of Chamois and Almond. It turned a little dark because I am really straight Chamois, but tried to infuse some Almond into my look for summer. It turned pretty okay in the photos, though. Buff'd is one of the more underrated mineral makeup companies in my opinion. This is probably due to the fact that it's a Canadian brand and so people from the US get turned off from buying products that entail more shipping fees and longer turnaround times. I can vouch that the fee and waiting time are not as high/long, and the wait is well worth the products. I love the silky feel and smooth finish of this foundation. I also love the fact that they have so many shades to choose from, so much so that you can most probably find your perfect shade without need of mixing.
For the eyes, I used Valerie Beauty mineral shadows in Classy, Bootcut and Gala, and MAC White Wheat eyeshadow - fun, neutral colors that are perfect for day/office use.

When I was in New Jersey, I roadtested a bridal look for my cousin Jewelyn who is getting married next month. I used MAC eyeshadows that were bought specifically for her wedding (as recommended by a MAC makeup artist), as well as some products from my own personal collection. I was a little intimidated by the fact that I (a) I am not a professional makeup artist; (b) this is probably just the third or fourth time I've ever done full makeup application on somebody other than myself, (d) I did the whole thing at night without the benefit of natural light, and (c) every step was being documented by her groom using his camera. That said, I did the best I could and if there were some mistakes, I do admit to them; but given the limited lighting, I tried my best to work under not-so-ideal conditions. Nonetheless, she and her mom liked the result. Some products would be tweaked as the big day nears, but this is more or less going to be her look. It was also a good thing that she has beautiful skin; I didn't waste much time in concealing blemishes.

Start with clean, moisturized face

Using Jewelyn's own Everyday Minerals kabuki, I used DreamWorld mineral foundation in Tethys (Sands formula), using the swirl, tap, spritz (using MAC Fix+ moisture spray) and buff technique. I did two layers of foundation.

I am suddenly on a vegan brush lust, maybe because I've drooled over some gorgeous pictures of Lumiere brushes that were posted online. Some of these were from this very nice girl named Catherine. I asked her permission if I can publish photos of her fantabulous pre-buy brush haul, and she happily obliged. Here are her pictures (thanks Catherine!):

Here are some of the loot I got during the glorious Thanksgiving sale last week. Some of these were bought at 50% off, so I was just really happy to get fullsize products at half the price. I was supposed to get a few samples but when sales as good as these come along, well, you have to take advantage.
Check out the beautiful swatches and product pictures! Notice the cute packaging. The swatches were applied dry using a Q-tip (or more universally known as cotton swab/bud). As most minerals, maximum color payoff can be achieved when these are used wet. I chose mostly matte blushes because in my experience, matte blushes have better staying power. I likewise need matte blushes to go with my MAC mineralize skinfinishes.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I just want to insert a little commercial break from all the wonderful holiday looks that have been sent in, and feature my thanksgiving look using Coastal Scents. I had a little "Eureka!" moment when I found a shade that is so much better on me, a 50-50 mix of Silk Medium 1.2 and Silk Light 1.2. I love how even the finish is and how natural it looked. I used Coastal Scent's blush in Sassy for this look and I really adore it! It's not too pigmented or too sheer like some other mineral blushes I've encountered, and I love the texture of Coastal Scents' blushes - very smooth and easy to apply. I want more!
I have been reading rave reviews about Silk Naturals' tinted lipgloss in Birthday Suit, aptly described on the site as the Ultimate Nude Lippie. I just love how creamy and non-drying it is, and it is truly the My Lips But Better shade. You can't beat the price as well. I'm really loving these two new-found (by me) mineral makeup companies.
So I am in a mineral makeup spree these days. I was pleased to try out Coastal Scents mineral foundation, and I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth and even-looking it was on my skin. I tried Silk Light and Silk Medium foundation (I mixed an even amount of each shade), but it was obviously too light on my skin. Maybe I should have stuck with straight Medium or a mix of Medium 1.2 and Light 1.2, or maybe straight Medium 1.2?? Arrggh... anyways, I will continue to try the samples, I'm really loving the smoothness of the finish and how it makes my skintone appear more even. I'd say it was medium coverage, but very buildable. I love that it also feels very light on the skin and doesn't make me feel I have foundation on. It also didn't make my skin itch nor did it do any chaos to my skin, in fact I would think it's pretty calming. I can't say anything else about its other products as I have not tried them yet, but will continue to do so in the next days or so. I got Coastal Scents' concealer brush and I love it! It's not too small so it can adequately cover up undereye circles and the taklon bristles are just of the perfect firmness.
I used Silk Naturals' Dait Bait perfecting powder for this look and I love how it made my skin look a bit luminous and, like its sheer version, it made my pores appear much smaller.
There's this new mineral makeup company that's currently the word-of-mouth on mineral makeup blogs and forums because of the unique way they package and sell their mineral foundation. First of all, they use silk in almost all of their products, and they don't give you a foundation product that is ready to use. They give you two small bags of foundation: an ivory foundation and a base blend - either warm gold, buttery gold or ebony foundation. They also give you a scoop to use and a 10g jar with sifter to place your mixed foundation in. They give you a "recipe" sheet so you can mix the base blend and white foundation to match your desired shade, and as such, you can tweak your foundation shades depending on the season. Now what is so frickin' good about that? People really don't want to do anything else when they buy something; they want it to be good and ready for application, right? If you know and use mineral makeup, however, you would know that it is difficult to find your perfect shade especially if you're transitioning from season to season because of your changing skintone. Sampling also gives you a headache at times because you have to ask what shade's equivalent is in that particular brand. This unique method by Silk Naturals eliminates the trial and error that sampling inevitably gives, and you can just add the ivory or the base blend depending on your needs. How ingenious, and yet the concept is really pretty simple.
